Whirlpool warranty & return policy — and how to actually claim it

Every line below is quoted from Whirlpool's own published policy and linked to the source. If something you bought is covered, Owed's agent can draft and send the claim for you.

Warranty

12 monthsstated window

Whirlpool covers factory-specified parts and labor for one year from the date of original purchase, to correct defects in materials or workmanship that existed when the appliance was purchased. Your remedy is repair — the document says so in capitals — though Whirlpool may replace the product at its sole discretion, in which case the replacement inherits only the remainder of the original term rather than a fresh year. French Door Bottom Mount and Side by Side refrigerators get an extra layer: years two through five cover parts and labor on the sealed refrigeration system, including compressor, evaporator, condenser, dryer and connecting tubing, for non-cosmetic defects that prevent the appliance from functioning. One clause is worth more than it looks: Whirlpool limits implied warranties to ten years rather than the one year most manufacturers write, which leaves a longer runway for a state-law claim after the express warranty lapses. Cosmetic damage has a hard 30-day reporting deadline from date of purchase.

In their own words

YOUR SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY UNDER THIS LIMITED WARRANTY SHALL BE PRODUCT REPAIR AS PROVIDED HEREIN.

How to file

All warranty service goes exclusively through authorized Whirlpool Service Providers — arranging your own repair forfeits coverage. Call the Whirlpool Customer eXperience Center at 1-866-698-2538 in the U.S. or 1-800-807-6777 in Canada. Have your name and address, model and serial number, a clear detailed description of the problem, and proof of purchase including the dealer or retailer name and address. Proof of purchase is required. Note this is in-home repair: Whirlpool will not pay for product pick-up or delivery, and countertop microwaves must be packaged and shipped to a designated service company at your own expense.

If they say no

A first refusal is not the end — most claims that get paid are the ones that got answered a second time. The ladder that works:

  1. Reply in the same thread quoting the exact policy line above, with your order number and the date. Ask for a supervisor or a formal complaint reference.
  2. Escalate to an executive contact if support stalls — a specific, documented request outperforms an angry one.
  3. Use your payment rail: a card chargeback for "not as described" or "item not received" (typically within 60 days of the statement under the US Fair Credit Billing Act, and up to 120 days under card-network rules — confirm the exact window with your issuer), or a PayPal dispute.
  4. For lost or damaged shipments, file a claim with the carrier directly.
  5. Escalate externally: the selling platform's guarantee, BBB, your state attorney general, or the FTC. Small claims is the last resort.
