Vitamix warranty & return policy — and how to actually claim it

Warranty
120 monthsstated window
Vitamix covers a Blender for ten years from the earlier of purchase or delivery, and unusually the coverage extends to normal wear and tear from ordinary household use — not just defects in material or workmanship. That single phrase makes this one of the strongest consumer warranties in the kitchen category, because it removes the argument most manufacturers win on. If Vitamix cannot repair the unit it will either replace it free of charge or refund the full purchase price, and you can state a preference in writing beforehand. A Blender means the motor base, containers, lids and tamper purchased together. Registration is optional and does not diminish your rights, but if you did not register you will be asked for date and proof of purchase. Vitamix issues a return authorization number and a prepaid return label, and pays standard shipping both ways. The warranty follows the blender through a change of ownership within the ten years, provided the owner information is updated. One deadline to watch: you are deemed to have accepted the returned product as is unless you report a problem, including shipment damage, within 48 hours of delivery.
In their own words
“Vitamix warrants to the owner that if this Blender (a “Blender” consists of a motor blender base, any blending container(s), lids and tamper(s) purchased together) fails within 10 years from the earlier of the date of purchase due or date of delivery as permitted by law due to a defect in material or workmanship or as a result of normal wear and tear from ordinary household use, Vitamix will, within 30 days of receipt of the returned blender, repair the failed Blender or component part of the Blender free of charge.”
What is Covered
“If, in Vitamix’s sole discretion, the failed Blender or component part of the Blender cannot be repaired, Vitamix will elect to either (A) replace the Blender free of charge or (B) refund the full purchase price to the owner, unless Vitamix receives prior written notice of the owner’s preference.”
What is Covered — if repair fails
“This Warranty is extended by Vitamix to the owner of this Blender for personal household use only. This Warranty does not apply to products used for commercial, rental or re-sale purposes.”
Who Can Seek Warranty Coverage
“Should ownership of the blender change during the 10-year period, please update the Blender’s owner information at www.vitamix.com/warranty.”
Who Can Seek Warranty Coverage — change of owner
“Failure to register your product purchase will not diminish your warranty rights.”
Product Registration
“Vitamix will pay standard shipping costs on the return of a Blender for warranty service and repair and for return shipment of the blender to you after the warranty repair or replacement.”
How to Obtain Return Authorization
“You will be deemed to have accepted the returned product “as is” upon delivery unless you notify Vitamix of any problem, including shipment damage, within 48 hours of delivery.”
How to Obtain Return Authorization — 48 hours
What they exclude
- Blenders used commercially, for rental or re-sale, or in non-household applications
- Cosmetic changes that do not affect performance, such as discoloration, effects of abrasives or cleaners, or food build up
- Containers and blades damaged by grinding herbs and spices — sand, coarse gritty and abrasive herbs wear blades prematurely, and volatile oils cause permanent discoloration
- Abuse, misuse, negligent use, alteration, exposure to abnormal or extreme conditions, or failure to follow the operating instructions — these void the warranty
- Repairs performed by anyone other than Vitamix or an authorized Vitamix Service Provider
- Component parts used with a motor base or container not expressly authorized by Vitamix
- The cost of any unauthorized warranty repairs
How to file
Call Vitamix Customer Service at 1.800.848.2649 or 1.440.235.4840. Do not ship anything first — you need a return authorization number, and Vitamix will not pay for unauthorized repairs. They provide shipping instructions and a prepaid return label, and cover standard shipping both directions; you pay only for special shipping requests. Have the date of purchase and proof of purchase ready if the blender was never registered. Once the repaired unit comes back, inspect it immediately: you have 48 hours to report shipment damage or any other problem before you are deemed to have accepted it.

If they say no
A first refusal is not the end — most claims that get paid are the ones that got answered a second time. The ladder that works:
- Reply in the same thread quoting the exact policy line above, with your order number and the date. Ask for a supervisor or a formal complaint reference.
- Escalate to an executive contact if support stalls — a specific, documented request outperforms an angry one.
- Use your payment rail: a card chargeback for "not as described" or "item not received" (typically within 60 days of the statement under the US Fair Credit Billing Act, and up to 120 days under card-network rules — confirm the exact window with your issuer), or a PayPal dispute.
- For lost or damaged shipments, file a claim with the carrier directly.
- Escalate externally: the selling platform's guarantee, BBB, your state attorney general, or the FTC. Small claims is the last resort.
