Lodge Seasoned cast iron warranty — the real coverage, and how to claim it

Lodge publishes a different warranty for each product line. Every line below is quoted from Lodge's own published terms for Seasoned cast iron and linked to the source.

Warranty

Lifetime coverage

Lodge's Made Right limited lifetime warranty covers seasoned cast iron and carbon steel — Classic Cast Iron, Chef Collection, Blacklock and Seasoned Carbon Steel — for normal household use. If the pan cracks or warps in the normal course of cooking, Lodge replaces it free with a similar product or one of equal value if yours is discontinued. It also covers manufacturing quality problems that most people assume they are stuck with: excessive grind or chatter marks that inhibit performance, holes in the casting, metallic projections and other casting defects, plus anything that arrives damaged in its shipping container. What it does not cover is the entire category of problems cast iron owners actually have — rust, pitting, roughness, sticky seasoning, flaking and odours are all excluded, and Lodge notes most of these are fixable with troubleshooting rather than replacement. Small cosmetic blemishes inherent to sand casting and hand finishing are likewise not defects. Three things void the warranty outright: washing in the dishwasher, soaking in water, or microwaving. Coverage runs to the original individual purchaser or a gift recipient, and never to commercial use.

Seasoned Cast Iron & Carbon Steel — what is covered

Lodge cookware undergoes rigorous quality reviews before leaving our Foundry, but in the small chance that you receive a product with excessive grind or chatter marks that inhibit cookware performance, holes in the casting, metallic projections, or other casting defects, these items are covered by the Made Right limited lifetime warranty.

How to claim

What they exclude

  • Rust, pitting, roughness, sticky seasoning, flaking and odors
  • Damage from use in commercial establishments
  • Accidents, drops, product mishandling, misuse, neglect and overheating
  • Any use inconsistent with the directions included with the cookware
  • Damage caused by melted items or other external sources, and residues from abrasive cleaners or polishes
  • Small cosmetic blemishes inherent to sand casting and hand finishing that do not affect performance
  • Voided by washing in the dishwasher, soaking in water, or using in the microwave

How to file

Work through Lodge's troubleshooting advice first — rust, sticky seasoning and flaking are explicitly not warranty matters and Lodge will point you back to re-seasoning. If the problem is a crack, a warp or a casting defect, fill out the form on the Returns and Troubleshooting page. Lodge may ask for photographs of the defect, or ask you to return the product at Lodge's expense, so do not ship anything unprompted. Replacement is at Lodge's option.

If they say no

A first refusal is not the end — most claims that get paid are the ones that got answered a second time. The ladder that works:

  1. Reply in the same thread quoting the exact policy line above, with your order number and the date. Ask for a supervisor or a formal complaint reference.
  2. Escalate to an executive contact if support stalls — a specific, documented request outperforms an angry one.
  3. Use your payment rail: a card chargeback for "not as described" or "item not received" (typically within 60 days of the statement under the US Fair Credit Billing Act, and up to 120 days under card-network rules — confirm the exact window with your issuer), or a PayPal dispute.
  4. For lost or damaged shipments, file a claim with the carrier directly.
  5. Escalate externally: the selling platform's guarantee, BBB, your state attorney general, or the FTC. Small claims is the last resort.
