Leatherman warranty & return policy — and how to actually claim it
Every line below is quoted from Leatherman's own published policy and linked to the source. If something you bought is covered, Owed's agent can draft and send the claim for you.
Warranty
300 monthsstated window
Leatherman backs its multitools for 25 years, and the clock is defined generously — it runs from the date the user receives the tool, not the date it was manufactured or sold, which matters for a tool that may have sat on a shelf. Leatherman Insiders get an extended 40-year warranty. Coverage is for the original or primary owner only and for personal use only, so a secondhand or resold tool is out. Defects due to material or manufacturing are repaired or replaced at Leatherman's sole discretion; defects due to abuse or unreasonable use will not be serviced and the tool is simply returned to you. The most common surprise is cosmetic: aesthetic aspects such as colour finishes, imprinting and laser marking are not covered at all, the repair process itself may affect appearance, and Leatherman prioritises function and safety over looks. It will not retain modifications or perform partial repairs — a repaired tool comes back at original functionality. Rust, oxidation and corrosion are excluded outright. If your tool is retired, a special edition or a limited run, expect an equivalent substitute rather than the same model back. When filing, you choose whether the tool is sentimental — if it is, Leatherman repairs or returns your original rather than swapping it.

How to file
Submit the online warranty form on Leatherman's site — one form per tool — then send the tool in. You will be asked to describe the problem, upload a photo of the whole tool, and say how it broke. The critical choice on the form is Sentimental versus Not Sentimental: pick Sentimental if you want your own tool back, because Not Sentimental authorises Leatherman to send a comparable refurbished replacement automatically with no further confirmation. Canadian residents use the separate Canadian warranty page; outside North America, contact your local distributor. Proof of purchase from an authorized dealer may be required.

If they say no
A first refusal is not the end — most claims that get paid are the ones that got answered a second time. The ladder that works:
- Reply in the same thread quoting the exact policy line above, with your order number and the date. Ask for a supervisor or a formal complaint reference.
- Escalate to an executive contact if support stalls — a specific, documented request outperforms an angry one.
- Use your payment rail: a card chargeback for "not as described" or "item not received" (typically within 60 days of the statement under the US Fair Credit Billing Act, and up to 120 days under card-network rules — confirm the exact window with your issuer), or a PayPal dispute.
- For lost or damaged shipments, file a claim with the carrier directly.
- Escalate externally: the selling platform's guarantee, BBB, your state attorney general, or the FTC. Small claims is the last resort.
Owed reads your receipts, tracks every warranty clock, drafts the claim citing the terms above, and follows up until you're paid. Free to start.
