Keurig warranty & return policy — and how to actually claim it

Warranty

12 monthsstated window

Keurig warrants a brewer free of defects in materials or workmanship under normal home use for one year from the date of purchase, repairing or replacing it at its option once you show proof of the purchase date. One term here is better than most of the category: if Keurig sends a replacement brewer, a new full one-year warranty applies to that replacement — it does not inherit the remainder of the original clock, and it does not reset to a shorter service period the way several competitors do. The replacement itself may be new or reconditioned. The clause that costs people claims is the pod rule: Keurig states that damage or malfunction resulting from non-Keurig pods and accessories may not be covered, or may trigger a service fee if the damage is determined to be caused by that use. Coverage applies only to brewers operated in the United States and Canada. Registration is recommended so your purchase information is on file, but the warranty turns on proof of purchase date.

Limited One Year Warranty — where

Nor does this warranty cover damages caused by use of non-Keurig® pods or accessories, services performed by anyone other than Keurig or its authorized service providers, use of parts other than genuine Keurig® parts, or external causes such as abuse, misuse, inappropriate power supply, or acts of God.

What Is Not Covered

Please do not return your brewer for servicing without first speaking to Keurig Customer Service to obtain a Return Materials Authorization (RMA) number. Keurig® brewers returned without an RMA number will be returned to the sender without servicing.

How Do You Obtain Warranty Service?

What they exclude

  • Consequential or incidental damages such as property damage, and incidental costs and expenses resulting from any breach of the warranty, even if foreseeable
  • Damage caused by use of non-Keurig pods or accessories — may not be covered, or may result in a service fee if determined to be the cause
  • Services performed by anyone other than Keurig or its authorized service providers
  • Use of parts other than genuine Keurig parts
  • External causes such as abuse, misuse, inappropriate power supply, or acts of God
  • Brewers operated outside the United States and Canada
  • Implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose are specifically disclaimed where state or provincial law allows

How to file

Call Keurig Customer Service at 1.866.901.BREW (2739) before doing anything else and obtain a Return Materials Authorization number — brewers returned without an RMA number are sent back to the sender without being serviced. Have proof of the date of purchase ready, since that is what triggers coverage. If a third-party pod or accessory is involved anywhere in the history of the machine, expect that to be the first thing raised; be ready to describe the failure in terms that separate it from pod-related damage.

If they say no

A first refusal is not the end — most claims that get paid are the ones that got answered a second time. The ladder that works:

  1. Reply in the same thread quoting the exact policy line above, with your order number and the date. Ask for a supervisor or a formal complaint reference.
  2. Escalate to an executive contact if support stalls — a specific, documented request outperforms an angry one.
  3. Use your payment rail: a card chargeback for "not as described" or "item not received" (typically within 60 days of the statement under the US Fair Credit Billing Act, and up to 120 days under card-network rules — confirm the exact window with your issuer), or a PayPal dispute.
  4. For lost or damaged shipments, file a claim with the carrier directly.
  5. Escalate externally: the selling platform's guarantee, BBB, your state attorney general, or the FTC. Small claims is the last resort.
