Breville warranty & return policy — and how to actually claim it

Every line below is quoted from Breville's own published policy and linked to the source. If something you bought is covered, Owed's agent can draft and send the claim for you.

Breville's warranty length is set per product rather than brand-wide — published terms run one, two, seven and ten years depending on the model, and Breville directs you to your product's page to find yours; one year is the floor. Coverage starts at the date of purchase, or the date of delivery if you live in California. The warranty is expressly non-transferable, so a secondhand or gifted Breville has none. Breville chooses the remedy at its sole discretion: repair with new or refurbished parts, replacement with a new or refurbished product, reimbursement of the original purchase price, or replacement of defective parts. Watch the reimbursement path — accepting it terminates all further warranty coverage on that product, so a refund closes the door permanently. Repaired or replaced products carry the balance of the original period or ninety days from service, whichever is longer. Do not return the product to the store; Breville sends a prepaid return label and typical turnaround is up to 10 business days plus shipping. Two traps in the exclusions: normal wear and tear voids coverage outright, and products bought from unauthorized sellers — Breville names eBay and independent e-commerce sites — are excluded entirely. California residents have extra statutory options, including returning the product to the retailer or to another retailer selling the same model.

In their own words

Your Breville product is covered by a Limited Warranty from the date of purchase, or if you are a resident of California, from the date of delivery.

Breville’s Limited Product Warranty

Breville hereby provides a limited non-transferable product warranty (the “warranty”) from the date of purchase, or if you are a resident of California, from the date of delivery, of the subject product against defects in product materials or workmanship.

Terms of Warranty Coverage

If the product, or one of its parts, qualifies for replacement or service under the warranty, Breville will send a pre-paid shipping label so that the product may be sent to Breville at no cost to you.

Warranty Claim Process

Repaired or replaced Products or parts thereof will be warranted by Breville for the balance of the original warranty period or ninety (90) days from the date of warranty service, whichever is longer.

Effect of the Warranty

The provision of an accommodation or a reimbursement terminates any further warranty coverage for such applicable product.

Effect of the Warranty — reimbursement is final

Product registration with Breville, while appreciated, is not required to activate any warranty and is not a substitute for a proof of purchase.

Terms of Warranty Coverage — registration

The warranty is not applicable to any purchase of a product for commercial use (such as in a hotel, office, restaurant, or other business capacity).

Product Warranty Limitations — commercial use

California law also provides that for any warranty service for a product, California residents have the option of returning the product (a) to the retailer from which it was originally purchased, or (b) to another retailer that sells the same Breville product, among other rights and consumer protections.

Warranty Notice to California Residents Only

What they exclude

  • Normal wear and tear, corrosion, rust, stain or age, and damage from improper use, mishandling, negligence or excessive wear and tear
  • Use inconsistent with the instruction manual, or failure to follow safety, operating, care or cleaning instructions
  • Products with removed, replaced, altered or illegible product, model or serial numbers or date codes
  • Alteration, modification or repair by any party not authorized by Breville
  • LCD or other read-out displays damaged by mishandling in transport, drops, spills or extreme temperature
  • Cosmetic damage — scratches, imprint or water marks, cracks, dents, stains
  • Damage caused directly or indirectly by a third party product
  • Acts of nature such as fire, flood or lightning, and damage from irregular current or voltage
  • Commercial use in a hotel, office, restaurant or other business capacity
  • Products bought outside North America, or bought in North America and used or transferred outside it
  • Products not purchased from Breville or a Breville-authorized distributor or reseller — Breville names non-authorized online sellers, auctions and independent e-commerce sites such as eBay
  • Products returned without a Breville-provided shipping label that are lost, misdelivered or damaged in transit
  • Products for which a reimbursement has already been provided as a final remedy

How to file

Do not take it back to the store. Find the model number, batch code and serial number on the sticker underneath or behind the product, have the original or a copy of the sales receipt showing model, payment and purchase date, then contact Breville Consumer Support on 1-866-273-8455. If the claim qualifies, Breville sends a prepaid return label so shipping costs you nothing — and use that label, because a product returned without it that is lost, misdelivered or damaged in transit is excluded from coverage. Registration is appreciated but is not required and is not a substitute for proof of purchase.

If they say no

A first refusal is not the end — most claims that get paid are the ones that got answered a second time. The ladder that works:

  1. Reply in the same thread quoting the exact policy line above, with your order number and the date. Ask for a supervisor or a formal complaint reference.
  2. Escalate to an executive contact if support stalls — a specific, documented request outperforms an angry one.
  3. Use your payment rail: a card chargeback for "not as described" or "item not received" (typically within 60 days of the statement under the US Fair Credit Billing Act, and up to 120 days under card-network rules — confirm the exact window with your issuer), or a PayPal dispute.
  4. For lost or damaged shipments, file a claim with the carrier directly.
  5. Escalate externally: the selling platform's guarantee, BBB, your state attorney general, or the FTC. Small claims is the last resort.
