Bose warranty & return policy — and how to actually claim it
Every line below is quoted from Bose's own published policy and linked to the source. If something you bought is covered, Owed's agent can draft and send the claim for you.
Warranty
12 monthsstated window
Bose warrants against defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of retail purchase, and five years for passive, non-powered loudspeakers. Two conditions decide most claims. First, the product must have been bought directly from Bose or a Bose authorized reseller — a grey-market or unauthorized-marketplace unit is outside the warranty entirely. Second, coverage runs to the original end-use purchaser or to the person who received the product as a gift, and to nobody else; buy a Bose secondhand and you have no warranty. Bose chooses the remedy: repair with new or refurbished parts, replacement with an equivalent new or refurbished product, or a partial or full refund of the original purchase price in exchange for returning the product. Normal wear and tear is expressly not covered, which for headphones is the common failure mode — worn earpads, a frayed cable, a battery losing capacity — so frame a claim around a defect, not degradation. Unauthorized repair, modification or customization voids the warranty outright.
In their own words
“Bose Corporation (“Bose”) warrants your product against defects in materials and workmanship when purchased directly from Bose or a Bose authorized reseller.”
Bose Limited Warranty — coverage
“This warranty is extended only to the original end-use purchaser or the person receiving the product as a gift and shall not be extended to any other person or transferee.”
Bose Limited Warranty — who is covered
“The warranty is valid from the date of retail purchase for a period of 1 year and a period of 5 years for passive, non-powered loudspeakers.”
Bose Limited Warranty — term
“In the case of a covered warranty defect, Bose will at its option: (A) repair the product using new or refurbished parts; (B) replace the product with an equivalent new or refurbished product; or (C) provide a partial or full refund of the original purchase price to you in exchange for return of the product.”
Bose Limited Warranty — remedy
“This warranty does not cover defects or damage arising from improper use or maintenance, normal wear and tear, commercial use, accident or external causes. Unauthorized repair, modification or customization of your product voids this warranty.”
Bose Limited Warranty — exclusions
What they exclude
- Defects or damage from improper use or maintenance
- Normal wear and tear
- Commercial use
- Accident or external causes
- Unauthorized repair, modification or customization — these void the warranty
- Products not purchased directly from Bose or a Bose authorized reseller
- Any owner other than the original end-use purchaser or a gift recipient — the warranty is not transferable
How to file
Contact Bose through the country contact page at worldwide.bose.com/contact. Bose may require proof of purchase details including a receipt or sales invoice before providing service, and because the warranty only covers purchases from Bose or an authorized reseller, that receipt is doing double duty — proving both the date and the channel. Do not attempt a repair or modification first; unauthorized repair voids the warranty.

If they say no
A first refusal is not the end — most claims that get paid are the ones that got answered a second time. The ladder that works:
- Reply in the same thread quoting the exact policy line above, with your order number and the date. Ask for a supervisor or a formal complaint reference.
- Escalate to an executive contact if support stalls — a specific, documented request outperforms an angry one.
- Use your payment rail: a card chargeback for "not as described" or "item not received" (typically within 60 days of the statement under the US Fair Credit Billing Act, and up to 120 days under card-network rules — confirm the exact window with your issuer), or a PayPal dispute.
- For lost or damaged shipments, file a claim with the carrier directly.
- Escalate externally: the selling platform's guarantee, BBB, your state attorney general, or the FTC. Small claims is the last resort.
Owed reads your receipts, tracks every warranty clock, drafts the claim citing the terms above, and follows up until you're paid. Free to start.
Policies change. We re-verify these terms regularly and show the date each was checked, but always confirm current terms on Bose's own site before relying on them. Owed is not a law firm and this page is not legal advice.
